Mt. Chacaltaya, La Paz, Bolivia

Climbed Mt. Chacaltaya yesterday, up to 5500m, which is higher than anything we did on the Inca Trail. And it was amazing. In the photo, you can see the whole of the Cordillera Orientale, across to Mt. Illayumi and beyond, with peaks of 6000m and above. We climbed up a slate covered mountain beside the snow and ice in gorgeous sunshine, one minute freezing cold, the next boiling hot.

We were meant to head south along the altiplano, but we´re still in la paz today, as there is a truck drivers strike protesting against new taxes and we can´t leave with our truck!!! hoping to get out tomorrow or day after tomorrow, and head south, but there´s protests in sucre too, which is one of our next destinations, so who knows???
