Bolivia, Day One

just got to bolivia. its freezing here! but found my boys again, so im happy. la paz on sunday, then up to the altiplano to the real cold! erk! and i still havent got rid of my dodgy tan lines!
Today we visited the Uros Islands from Puno in southern Peru, which are floating reed bed islands in the middle of Lake Titicaca, in the gorgeous sunshine. Current fashion... shorts, sunglasses, fleece and scarf! Amazing to see how people live out in the middle of the lake, but quite touristy - still, we managed to spend the last of our Peruvian soles on tapestries to send home!
In Copacabana (the Bolivian one) tonight - trying to find somewhere for dinner that will feed 15 of us... last night there were 30 of us out for Grants birthday, great fun, but slow on food arrival! Ended up hitting a nightclub with the worst dj in the world, and hardly anybody there but us, great dancing... some of us were still recovering from the previous nights cusco all-nighter though! Not pretty when you have to do an 8 hour drive, but then you figure that you might as well use the time to sleep as to do anything else! its hard to be productive in a bumpy truck! 5 hours on board today, but have started Hiram Binghams book, Lost City of the Incas, about Machu Picchu - really good read - to be continued on our next trip to La Paz on Sunday. Anyway, we were energetic enough last week with the Inca trail through Lares, which was amazing, and gave us a really good trip through some Andean villages, and, just because we felt we hadnt done enough... 3 of us headed up machu picchu mountain (650m above the ruins) on friday as well!

Tomorrow we head out to the Isla del Sol for a 10km walk across the island, and on sunday, some of the group are attempting the "most dangerous road" for downhill biking - and some are going shopping... i had quite enough downhill biking on Ruminahuai in Ecuador, so guess where i will be!
