Quito´s Plaza Grande

On Mondays, crowds gather outside the Palacio de Gobierno to see the President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, whom they adore (!), as he watches the changing of the palace guard. It´s a big affair, and everybody sings along with the guard band. There is a certain sense of deja vu for us Europeans, as the music and uniforms owe their existence and style here to the Brits, but the allegiance of the Ecuadorians to their President is like nothing I´ve seen our side of the water. Quite moving really!
