All quiet on the Ecuadorian eastern front??

BBC: Venezuela restores Colombia ties

Well, Chavez came out of last week's events looking rather like the peacemaker of the south americas... I know I'm not the only cynic to suspect that this was what he intended all along. Is it all over though? Ecuador, apparently, is still not so sure that they actually want to be friends with Colombia again, what with Colombia having staged a raid within their borders without their permission. But now of course they're still embarrassed that Uribe has insisted Ecuador actually gave his troops undercover support for the raid. Does that help? Unlikely.
So we hold our breath that Colombia will keep its promises not to do the same again, and hope that Correa will quieten things within the Ecuadorean borders. Still, with Uribe's big apology, it's all looking slightly better than it was a week ago!
